As modern medicine progresses, we are learning more and more how to create indistinguishable copies so that they may interact beneficially with our already intact body parts and processes, in the form of prosthetic limbs, psychoactive medication which mimics neuroreceptors, and allergy medicine which shuts down antibodies by signaling the brain. My interest is in imagining the potential reactions of the body and mind when it discovers the imposter: an exact lookalike, masquerading as the real thing. I imagine this realization might feel similarly to discovering your lunch was in fact a cloth replica, going to wipe and finding the toilet paper had been replaced with a non working doppleganger. This process of replacement worries me in its lack of awareness and through these manufactured cloth objects I seek to bring the awareness that this process deserves.
